Hey, POL! I promised that I’d try to start putting out progress reports detailing the status of different staff groups working on the game. Hopefully this will give you who aren’t normally “in the loop” an idea of how things are going.

I’ll start out with Mapping and Tiling, since I’m directly involved in that and it’s what I know the most about. Right now, we’re finishing up making all of the Kanto maps. As some of you may know, when HeartGold and SoulSilver were released, there were some changes made to Kanto maps, and we’re reflecting those changes in POL, so we had to go in and change all of the new tiles from HgSs style to POL style, and then update our maps accordingly. HgSs map changes are almost completed, with only 1 assignment (4 maps) still being worked on. All of the other assignments have been submitted, meaning we’re starting the map checking phase, which is our final check of all of the Kanto maps to make sure that they are up to POL standards and are ready to be put into the game. This process has been started, but we haven’t gotten very far in it as of now.

For the tiling side, the Kanto tileset is essentially complete, with all of the tiles in their revamped state and ready for use. However, there might be a few more tiles added if necessary, if any of the map checking crew find mistakes/missing tiles when they check the maps. We’re all crossing our fingers that that won’t be a problem, but there’s always a chance that a few tiles will have to be added. Also, we’ve started tiling Hoenn maps and compiling those into a Hoenn tileset. We have a lot of the exterior tiles already completed, but they still need to be organized and compiled into usable forms for the mapping team.

I’ll go to the Wiki team next. Led by Damo and Travonte, our Wiki team is currently working on adding all of the Trading Card Game sets and cards to our Wiki. As of now, they’re about 50% done, having completed all of the Gen 1 and 2 sets, and they’re about to start the Gen 3 sets. An example of what they’re doing can be seen here.

In the Graphics department, the main focus is on finishing the player sprites. This task includes making all of the customizable features for the player, including clothing, hair color, hair style, etc. In the current count, 816 sprites are complete, and 563 are incomplete. The Graphics team is also working on making vector art for POL, which is basically scaleable graphics that are rendered to show the best image quality possible, so that the quality of the image doesn’t change if the image is resized. Currently, there are only about 5 done, and there are about 80 of them that need to be done, so that’s one area that still needs a lot of work.

So that’s about it for this report. I don’t expect my future ones to be this long, since I spent a lot of time in this one explaining different things. I’m going for one every month, so it’ll be a while until the next update comes out. If y'all have any questions or comments about this report, then this is the perfect thread to ask them in. Oh, I'm sorry, I must have misunderstood what you told me over Skype. When you told me how many there were left to do, I thought that that was the count for player sprites.

Ok, I just want to point out one more thing.

In the trainer spriting department, we have 816 sprites complete.
Then we have 160 sprites that are not up to par, and need revision or restyling.
Finally, we have 563 sprites not started on yet. 433 of those are backthrow sprites.

So not including the backthrow sprites, we have 290 battle and mini-sprites yet to be completed.
